Welcome to Playa Grande, Costa Rica!

If you are standing on the beach in Tamarindo, and look across the estuary to the North... you don't see much other than a long, gorgeous, fairly deserted beach that we call home. You won't see any high rise buildings, or even many houses on the beach. Only native dry forest, which provides a natural barrier between the beach and most human influence. Playa Grande truly is a big beautiful beach with plenty of surfing breaks along it's entire length, therefore ensuring that anyone can find a spot to surf in solitude.

One of the most consistent surfing beaches in the area, Playa Grande is also the closest surfing beach to Libera International Airport  (approximately 66 kilometres between them). The road is now paved, so you will encounter no dirt roads between the aiport and arriving in Playa Grande. The road to the south end of Playa Grande remains unpaved however, and can be quite bumpy!

Despite being a small town, Playa Grande has everything that you could want, from great dining experiences on any budget, to a wide range of accommodation, 2 surf shops, a Day Spa, small supermarket, internet cafe, real estate offices and more. We even have a dentist and doctor in town now!  Tamarindo night life is only a short taxi ride away, when you want a little more action, however if tranquility, good surf, local wildlife and good food sounds good to you, you need not search further.
